During his playing career he played 13 first class matches averaging 30.40, with a highest score of 79* Vs. Essex CCC in 2009. In addition, Nick has played 2XI cricket for 6 counties including Sussex, Kent, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Essex and Somerset between 2004 and 2011. Nick also played 6 seasons of Minor Counties cricket for Suffolk CCC and premier league cricket for Bury St. Edmunds in the East Anglian Premier League, before moving to play at Dorking CC as their pro when he joined the Sussex staff in 2009.
